Summary

Chaperones, suitors, and arranged marriages aren't only reserved for the heroines of a Jane Austen novel。 They're just another walk in the park for this leading lady, who is on a mission to find her leading lad。 From the brilliant comics Yes, I'm Hot in This, Huda Fahmy tells the hilarious story of how she met and married her husband。 Navigating mismatched suitors, gossiping aunties, and societal expectations for Muslim women, That Can Be Arranged deftly and hilariously reveals to readers what it can be like to find a husband as an observant Muslim woman in the twenty-first century。

So relevant in today's evolving cultural climate, Fahmy's story offers a perceptive and personal glimpse into the sometimes sticky but ultimately rewarding balance of independent choice and tradition。

the way this book has my heart 。 i related to so much of it like 。。。 not to overshare on my goodreads profile but ,, (view spoiler)[ just like Huda, i also met a cute guy at a Muslim conference / event / thing recently, immediately thought "🤔 this could be the person i marry" and bothered my friends to get me more information about him 。 ALSO like Huda and Gehad , he and i spent our first real convo talking about pokémon。 (hide spoiler)] unfortunately it didn't work out 😭👍 but despite the heart the way this book has my heart 。 i related to so much of it like 。。。 not to overshare on my goodreads profile but ,, (view spoiler)[ just like Huda, i also met a cute guy at a Muslim conference / event / thing recently, immediately thought "🤔 this could be the person i marry" and bothered my friends to get me more information about him 。 ALSO like Huda and Gehad , he and i spent our first real convo talking about pokémon。 (hide spoiler)] unfortunately it didn't work out 😭👍 but despite the heartbreak i'm still optimistic about myself & abt love — which is why one of my favorite parts of this book & one that rly resonated with me was when Huda built up the courage to reject the creepy stalker dude and detach her self-worth from approval from a man and from being married。 the panel where she looks at herself in the bathroom mirror and says, "you are worth the wait。" that is everything to me !!!! 🥺 <3 。。。more

I ADORED this book!!At first I was really disappointed that it wasn't fully comic like Fahmy's previous biography was, but I think the story definitely needed it and I respect creatives who don't box themselves in with that's expected and do what their story needsThat said, I really enjoyed this book once I got over my surprise。 It was still a really quick read and I was fully engaged! I especially resonated with Fahmy's struggle with singleness and love how she didn't use her story as a "single I ADORED this book!!At first I was really disappointed that it wasn't fully comic like Fahmy's previous biography was, but I think the story definitely needed it and I respect creatives who don't box themselves in with that's expected and do what their story needsThat said, I really enjoyed this book once I got over my surprise。 It was still a really quick read and I was fully engaged! Very charming illustrated memoir of a Muslim woman’s journey through the arranged marriage process — Huda is relatable and over-the-top, and it was enjoyable to learn more about her process。

Love this author after hearing her speak at a conference! Really loved Huda F are You? and decided to look at her other books。 I'm not a big fan of graphic novels, but I definitely am a fan of this author! I laughed until I was nearly in tears and was nearly in tears over the validation of what to look for in a life partner。 I've also never related to someone's discussion of their faith in such a way, and I am eternally thankful to Fahmy for packing so much about life into such a short work。 I laughed until I was nearly in tears and was nearly in tears over the validation of what to look for in a life partner。 I've also never related to someone's discussion of their faith in such a way, and I am eternally thankful to Fahmy for packing so much about life into such a short work。 。。。more

Adorable! The author explains everything well for non-Muslim readers。 Her tone throughout the book is very charming, and I enjoyed the illustrations too! Lovely read!

So charming, so funny, so so great! I read this all in one sitting and enjoyed the hell out of it。 I also loved how the author compared the process of dating while Muslim to the courting that happened in Jane Austen books。 Brilliant, hilarious and just super cute。 Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this graphic novel about how the author, Huda Fahmy, met her husband。 Huda explains the societal expectations of Muslim men and women dating。 She keeps it light and funny while also being informative。 The art was simple but lovely, and there was a good mix of cultural insights with personal experiences。 It was a quick read I highly recommend!

I did not realize this book was a graphic comic until I started reading。 I turned to reviews, and I did further research to confirm this。 I believe I would have enjoyed the story a bit more if I was able to see the pictures。 My rating is a “4” due to the fact that I am blind, so I cannot appreciate that part of the story。 Overall, I enjoyed this。

4。5I love Huda Fahmy's comics and her recent graphic novel Huda F Are You? but That Can Be Arranged has got to be my favourite。 I finally bought it about a month ago after having it on my wishlist for ages and finished it in one sitting。In this book, Huda tells her tale of how she met and married her husband。 A tale filled with nosy gossiping aunties, some horrendous suitors and the pressure of societal expectations。 In her usual style, Huda brings so much humour to the story but also manages to 4。5I love Huda Fahmy's comics and her recent graphic novel Huda F Are You? but That Can Be Arranged has got to be my favourite。 I finally bought it about a month ago after having it on my wishlist for ages and finished it in one sitting。In this book, Huda tells her tale of how she met and married her husband。 A tale filled with nosy gossiping aunties, some horrendous suitors and the pressure of societal expectations。 In her usual style, Huda brings so much humour to the story but also manages to lay out some facts and impart some wisdom。I don't reread books often these days but this is one I can see myself opening up again and again。 I relished every moment of it and couldn't help wishing there was more of it when I was done。 。。。more

I don't know a lot about Muslim culture, and I find that Huda Fahmy is a great way to learn more。 I recently read Huda F Are You? and was super excited to learn that there were more books, which I promptly requested for my library to purchase。 It was delightful and lovely, and I love Huda's comparisons to Jane Austen characters。 I don't think it's a must read for everyone like I do with Huda F Are You? I love her sense of humour! Huda practically summarised the 21st-century modern day Muslimah’s love venture。 (I personally would have bought this book for myself before I got married!) Perfect for single Muslimahs out there who are searching &/ waiting for their rightful spouses as she weaves in timely reminders on the importance of one’s spiritual & emotional growth for self-care。 Enjoy all her cutest illustrations too!

I really enjoyed this! Huda has a very fun narrative voice。 I liked how she covered her own Muslim courtship, but this book isn't just about her relationship to her now-husband。 It's also her own story, reflecting her changing views on love and marriage and, most importantly, her relationship with herself。 I really enjoyed this! A sweet little graphic memoir about Huda finding a husband。 She did a great job explaining things from her culture that people might misunderstand, and it was a great lesson on what arranged marriage really is (hint: it’s not forced!)。

This was such a delightful read! I'm a huge fan of Huda's comics "Do I look hot in this?" So I was looking forward to this book because I was wondering about the illustrations in it。 It was hilarious, and insightful and I LOVED that it had a funny, quirky way of portraying Islam, rather than the books I usually have to deal with。 Most either talking bad about it, or simply picking whatever they liked about the laws/rules to portray or ignore。I didn't like the marriage-obsessed mindset in theory This was such a delightful read! “That Can Be Arranged” is the story of how Huda Fahmy met her husband, except it’s so much more than that。 It talks about the idea of marriage that gets instilled into many girls since childhood (at least in the culture I grew up in), the ‘husband-hunting’ phase, ‘rishtas’, the stress when friends get married, and everything else you can think of。 I loved the illustrations and how they depicted thoughts, feelings, and emotions we often experience but struggle to express。 My favorite bits were ho “That Can Be Arranged” is the story of how Huda Fahmy met her husband, except it’s so much more than that。 It talks about the idea of marriage that gets instilled into many girls since childhood (at least in the culture I grew up in), the ‘husband-hunting’ phase, ‘rishtas’, the stress when friends get married, and everything else you can think of。 I loved the illustrations and how they depicted thoughts, feelings, and emotions we often experience but struggle to express。 My favorite bits were how Ms。 Fahmy showed the ticking of time in the struggle to find “The One”, and the wisdom she ended up having after every new experience along the way。While the book is a light-hearted read that you can literally finish in one sitting (because once you pick it up, you won’t be able to stop reading), I also admired how open Huda was about her own life, culture, and religion。 These details were seamlessly added into the narrative, including certain terms and definitions that could have easily been overcomplicated。I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and would definitely recommend it, especially if you’re someone going through the marriage phase (and even if you aren’t)。 。。。more

This is the sweetest, funniest, most real look at modern Muslim dating life。 Huda compares her situation as a Muslim woman dating to that of Pride and Prejudice and Elizabeth Bennett。 I loved reading this!
